A Few Words From The Chairman.
Welcome to the Website of Marist RUFC.
Marist RUFC started life some 48 years ago as part of the Marist Old Boys Association, playing in the early years from a field in Dunswell. When Hull & East Riding vacated the premises of Hull & East Riding sports club (Goddard Avenue) for the salubrious surroundings of 'The Circle Marist happily took up residence and produced some of the best rugby in their history from 'Goddard Avenue' . Marist where renowned around Yorkshire for their 'open style' of 15 man rugby. During the early eighties Marist left 'Goddard Avenue' to open their own clubhouse in a joint venture with Hull University on a site off 'Cranbrook Avenue' on land belonging to the University. In recent years we have welcomed local Rugby league and Football clubs to 'Cranbrook Avenue' with the club now been run by the 'Marist Sporting Club'.
My personal association with Marist RUFC goes back some 43 years when I joined as a young lad in 1963. Following a long and distinguished playing career I now hold the post of Chairman of this proud club. During the mid-late 90's we saw a decline in personnel playing our beloved sport of Rugby Football and this hit hard a grass roots level with Marist only fielding one senior side in the Yorkshire 5 South East league.
One of the current objectives for Marist, and one which we are all working hard to achieve, is the formation of a second XV. We have seen in the last couple of years an uprise in the interest in Rugby Football (following the World Cup win) by a growing number of younger people and it is these who will be the future of the club. Marist has always been, and hopefully always will be a family orientated club, this shows with several members of the present team who's Fathers have and still are play ing for the club.
If you are an 'older player' or a young person wanting to try the sport for the first time you will always be made welcome at Marist RUFC.
Hope all readers of this message have a good year supporting the game of Rugby Football.
